Discern was founded by Dr. Sophia Dingli following fifteen years of teaching International Relations and Political Theory, including a decade as a lecturer at the University of Glasgow, a Russell Group institution.
Most incoming undergraduates have achieved very good school marks. However, school rewards learning established content, whereas elite universities reward the ability to formulate original arguments in situations where no single "right" answer exists. Without tools for focused critical reading, precise argumentation, and navigating ambiguity, even top-performing students face severe essay shock, seminar anxiety, and academic friction.
